Buenos Aires

After breakfast we depart on our city tour of Buenos Aires and discover the main points of interest. It’s a beautiful city with a strong European heritage in its architecture and lifestyle. The avenues are very wide 4 - 7 lanes one way feeding into the centre of the city. One avenue being the widest in the world. Unfortunately this morning was torrential rain thunder and lightning so we couldn’t leave the bus. First time on the trip we have had rain so can’t complain. We stopped off at the famous Tortoni cafe for a morning coffee. Quite often the queue is several blocks long to wait your turn to enter the building. We happen to strike a short wait. The rain soon eased off and the day cleared so we were able to do a bit of walking.

A bit of this about the streets. 39% unemployment. She had a great set up lying there reading her book.
After touring the different areas of this beautifully laid out city with its 200 acres of park area we stopped off at La Bricada restaurant for lunch which was a restaurant full of soccer memorabilia and tough meat.
Most of the afternoon we had free so some of us visited Eva Perons grave and memorial. A graveyard full of famous people. It was like walking through a village of small concrete houses behind iron gates.

That evening we were taken to a Ventana dinner and Tango show held in a beautifully restored historic place. Prior to the show we had a delicious meal then the show began. There were more than 25 dancers, singers and musicians. A fantastic show which closed with a moving tribute to Eva Peron. She’s still very highly regarded here in Argentina.
