Lake Titicaca - La Paz

We had a 6.30am departure land transfer from Puno to the Bolivian border. We walked through from Peru into Copacabana in Bolivia having our passports checked as we went through. The arch is the border
What a change in culture within a few metres. Suddenly we were being told to watch our possessions and beware of pick pockets.

Peanuts everywhere.

After walking through the border we took a walk through the town square and past the local Catholic Church where cars were decorated and lined up to be blessed by the priest to keep them safe on the roads. They come from all over Bolivia and Peru up to 300 cars a day during this festival.

The traffic in the city explains why they go to this amount of trouble
But no crashes or dented cars as you would normally expect.

Half Lake Titicaca is in Peru and the other half Bolivia.  We then transferred onto this catamaran on Lake Titicaca for the rest of the afternoon and visited Sun Island the birthplace of the Inca Empire where we visited a few sights up on the hill. From there we motored to Chua Hbr while enjoying a buffet lunch on board. Then a 2 hr bus transfer to La Paz which turned into a three and a half drive. When we arrived into the centre of La Paz it was Friday night peak traffic and it took about an hour to go 1km. Then we came across streets blocked with protesters so we all ended up walking the last half hour to reach our hotel. The bus delivered our bags about 40 minutes later. It was a quick meal and into bed. We are now at 4000 metres.
