Another 5am start to meet the Peru Rail Titicaca train at 7.10am a 10 hour journey to Puno. It was a very interesting train trip crossing the Andes. We wound our way out of Cusco then came out onto a plateau which went for miles. It was great taking in the Andean landscape watching the countryside change all the way but still with lots of small plots of subsistence farms through the valleys worked by manual labour. It was total luxury having lunch, drinks and afternoon tea all included in our package and delivered to your table set with white clothes. Very little alcohol being consumed at these high altitudes it’s difficult enough to walk a straight line!!! We noticed a few large mobs of alpacas through this plateau area.
The train had an open- observatory carriage which was great for viewing the countryside. Then there would be entertainment with South America music & dancing. A bar was available but we abstained.

The train stopped for 10 minutes at this highest point of the journey where there was also a tiny market.
Fancy train! Just awaiting another southerly after a mild week
