It was a pleasant change to wake up to the beautiful Copacabana Beach outside our hotel door. A beach full of activity with heaps of volley ball areas for playing on the sand. It’s their winter but what we would call a humid summer. Rio is a beautiful place nestled between the mountains and the sea with the iconic landmark Christ the Redeemer watching over the city. The Catholic religion here seems to be very important to everyone and are proud to be showing it off.
Our first visit was to the Sugar Loaf which was an amazing engineering feat 270 metres high. We reached the top by cable car which takes 80 people per trip......a 2 minute ride. The views from this lookout were amazing. Shame about the haze.

Copacabana Beach in the distance where we are staying

.
About to make our way to the top of the Sugar Loaf by Cable car.

The peak on the right in the distance is a far away view of ‘Christ the Redeemer ‘

The beautiful beach in front of our hotel.
We had the afternoon to ourselves. The beach was a great place to people watch.
