La Paz

Our tour guide met us after breakfast and showed us the highlights of La Paz. First stop was the look out over the city just to get a feel of the place. 11 million people live in Bolivia. 3 million of them live in the countryside. They’re still a poor country but beginning to go ahead with their good resources such as gold, silver, oil and many others. Lithium is a huge resource they are just beginning to mine. Hopefully there is a great future for them. They have 10 cable cars which they use as their metro  service. 2 of them move people to another city at the top of the hill. They began operating in 2014 and cost 1 billion 1 million to build.  A fantastic way to move people and keep vehicles off the roads. Their  streets are so narrow. We took one of the metro cable cars and visited a few sights including the witches market and museum. After our traditional Bolivian lunch we drove to Moon valley which has an impressive lunar like landscape with its eroded miniature canyons and pinnacles.

Our guide who is fully indigenous..... 60% of the population still are today. They keep to their original beliefs Inca style even though they call themselves Catholics which arrived with the Spanish. Our guides beard intrigued me with its plait blue colouring then jewellery dangling off the end of it.
Heading to higher parts of the city by cable car.

Tony dressed for dinner. Everyone had a bib tied
around them before dinner began. We felt as though we were in a resthome apart from the beautiful meat that came sizzling out on our hot plates.
We ended our day with a visit by appointment only to the home of a well known artist Roberto who makes pottery and beautiful tiles. His daughter makes lovely jewellery. Quite a family affair.
